Sterilisation equipment

An autoclave is a pressure vessel that a hospital relies on for sterility assurance, and both of those facts have consequences. We service, calibrate and supply sterilisation equipment for CSSD, theatre and laboratory across India.

Department FAQ

Questions we get about sterilisation

01

Our autoclave reaches pressure but loads come out wet. What causes that?

Wet loads are a drying-phase or steam-quality problem, not a pressure problem. The usual causes are a failed steam trap, a weak vacuum pump on a pre-vacuum machine, an overloaded chamber, or feed water carrying too much scale. It is worth fixing properly, because a wet pack is not a sterile pack once it is handled.

02

How often should an autoclave be calibrated?

Chamber temperature, pressure and cycle timing every six months, and after any repair affecting the heating, control or steam path. The safety valve is tested at the same interval. The gauge on the front tells you what the sensor believes; only an independent reference tells you what the chamber is actually doing.

03

Is scale really a problem here?

Yes, and it is the single largest cause of autoclave failure in Gujarat. Hard feed water deposits scale on elements and inside the chamber and boiler. Scaled elements overheat and fail, scaled sensors read late, cycles lengthen and steam quality drops. Descaling on a schedule, and treating the feed water, costs a fraction of the elements it saves.
